Announces Candidacy for the Georgia House Of Representatives
APPLING, GA – Columbia County Republican and business executive
Brett McGuire has
announced his candidacy for the Georgia House Of Representatives,
representing District 117. The seat is presently held by the Rep.
Barry Fleming (R-Harlem) who has announced he will step down to
pursue the 10th District U.S. Congressional seat
presently held by Paul Broun (R-Athens).
GA House District 117 includes most of Columbia
County, Lincoln County, a portion of Wilkes County, and is one of
the largest districts in Georgia. McGuire chose to hold two press
conferences, in two parts of the district, in one day, to voice his
commitment to serve the “entire” district. McGuire commented, “Since
Barry Fleming announced he will step down to run for U.S. Congress,
I’ve had people in all parts of the district call me and encourage
me to run for this seat. Representative Fleming has done a fine job
for us, and I am committed to representing our citizens with smart
decisions based on common sense and conservatives values”.
McGuire also stated, “we have many issues that
are important to our area such as our water supply, illegal
immigration, health care, and taxes. Our district needs someone who
can effectively articulate these needs and produce results with
bipartisan support”.
McGuire was the Campaign Manager that helped
send Jim Whitehead to the Senate in 2004 and has a solid background
in local business, civic, and charitable organizations. McGuire
brings a common-sense approach and strong work ethic to the District
117 race, and has a campaign platform stressing that he is the
“smart choice” to protect the values and needs of working families,
rural communities, and senior residents of the thriving district.
