The second
debate/forum between candidates for the Georgia House of
Representatives, District 117 was scheduled to be held
Wednesday, at the Holiday Inn on Gordon Highway, aired on
WNRR-AM 1230
during the People and
Issues with Helen show, hosted by Helen Blocker-Adams. The Republican candidate Brett
McGuire arrived and had no opposition as his opponent,
local farmer Lee Anderson did not show up because of business
conflicts. Since McGuire is now a retired manager of a large
company in Augusta, he was able to
devote his time to the event and inform the voters why he is
the smart choice and the most qualified to be their
representative in District 117. McGuire also pointed out
that he will devote his time and energy to representing the
families and businesses of the district and will always be
accessible, as he was for the debate, and at any time after
he is elected July 15th.
McGuire has his
personal cell phone listed on all printed campaign material to
make it as easy as possible for the citizens to get in touch
with him if needed. "I know listing a personal cell phone is
not usually done by most candidates and elected officials, but
I feel it is important to be accessible to the citizens of the
district," stated McGuire. "When elected, I will
communicate with my constituents, and not disappear once
elected."
The forum was also scheduled to host the Republican candidates
for the Georgia House Of Representatives, District 118, Lee
Benedict and Ben Harbin. The incumbent Harbin could not attend
the forum. The moderator Helen Blocker-Adams commended McGuire
and Benedict for taking the time to attend the forum even
though they had no opposition.
During the forum, McGuire spoke about his commitment to issues
such as tax reform and improving educational opportunities in
the district, as well as
freezing property taxes - via a floating homestead exemption.
As the assessments increase, they would be offset by a
floating homestead exemption.
Answering questions from the audience and callers about the
differences between he and his opponent, McGuire stated that
his military service, his college education, and his
leadership experience as a manager of a large company are a
few
of many important advantages that he has over his opponent.
