Today,
Brett McGuire, the conservative Republican candidate for
the Georgia House of Representatives, District 117 applauded
Gov. Sonny Perdue for instructing State agencies to cut their
2008 budgets at least 3.5 percent. McGuire has been persistent
in his pledge of cutting wasteful spending in government and
fighting for tax reform.
According to the article published in
The Augusta Chronicle
on Wednesday,
"Deputy
press secretary Marshall Guest said Mr. Perdue's
recommendations will depend on the economic climate".
McGuire commended the Governor but stressed that these cuts
should not be based solely on the economic climate. "We've
seen right here in Columbia County how a thriving economy
provided more
sales tax revenue; but a thriving economy doesn’t justify
large increases in property taxes and wasteful spending. Our
citizens are tired of property taxes going up every year. We
need to cut taxes and cut spending, and we need to make those
cuts permanent as the Governor has requested",
stated McGuire.
In today's falling economy where taxes and energy costs are
increasing so quickly, local citizens are confident that Brett
McGuire understands the budget process, has the management
experience needed to be effective, and will go to Atlanta to
reduce the size of government. He won't cater to the special
interest groups. McGuire added, " People are looking for
new ideas and results".
